A range of acquisitions from books, to manuscripts, to prints incorporating the photographic process from the 19th century to the present day has enriched the Haverford College Fine Art Photography Collection. This exhibition is a representative survey of the most important works acquired by gift and purchase covering diverse genres of photography from War to Fashion. It includes Civil War photographs by George Barnard and Alexander Gardner; to 20th and 21st century works by Edward Weston, Mike Disfarmer, Ruth Orkin, Lisette Model, and Andy Warhol to contemporary works by Marion Belanger, Duane Michaels, Jessica Todd Harper, Douglas Mellor and Isa Leshko. Each current acquisition has broaden the scope and utility of this encyclopedic collection of over 5,000 prints, which has its origins in 1870 when Haverford College began to acquire photographs for teaching purposes.
