Sally Berger is a film and media arts curator, writer, and teacher. She is curator of “Performing Past-Present: Transforming Reenactment” for Haverford College’s Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery and has been a visiting instructor in Visual Studies at Haverford College, and fellow at the Center for Media, Culture and History at New York University.
Berger was an Assistant Curator at The Museum of Modern Art in the Department of Film and co-founder and director of Documentary Fortnight, an international festival of non-fiction film and media (at MoMA, 1986 – 2016). At the Museum she organized contemporary film and media exhibitions, retrospectives, and artist presentation series. Her installation and theater exhibition “Maya Deren’s Legacy: Women and Experimental Film,” was accompanied by an essay on Maya Deren for the Museum publication, Modern Women: Women Artists at The Museum of Modern Art. She has written articles and blogs on numerous artists and filmmakers.
Berger served as Executive Director of the Flaherty Seminars (1989 – 1994). She received a M.A. in Cinema Studies from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts, and a B.A. in Media Studies from Fordham College at Lincoln Center (Sally Berger).
